We were tasked with finding three websites on awwwards.com. However, that URL kept rendering an error message even on different browsers. So, I used behance.net to search website portfolios.
The three portfolio websites that I chose were:
- BRANDING for MPTBOX – AR/VR METAVERSE CRYPTO LOGO: https://www.behance.net/gallery/204510281/BRANDING-for-MPTBOX-ARVR-METAVERSE-CRYPTO-LOGO?tracking_source=search_projects|web+design+portfolio&l=17
- Website for photo & video artists: https://www.behance.net/gallery/221751151/Website-for-photo-video-artist?tracking_source=search_projects|web+design+portfolio&l=23
- Héloïse Thibodeau Architecte: https://www.behance.net/gallery/220475619/Hloise-Thibodeau-Architecte?tracking_source=search_projects|web+design+portfolio&l=15
To be honest, I wouldn’t call any of these portfolio websites amazing because they all had a number of flaws that could use some tweaking. However, I chose them because aesthetically, they appealed to my eyes.
The BRANDING for MPTBOX was the most aesthetically appealing of the three because I felt immediately immersed in the site because the opening graphics provided a visual summary of the site. The balance and white space were used appropriately. I enjoyed the colors, and the fonts were easy to read. The only thing I didn’t care for was the pixelated section towards the bottom of the page.
I enjoyed the Website for photo & video artists because it was a clean, simple design that showcased some black-and-white photos that I think would speak to the targeted audience (photographers and video artists). There was great use of proximity, balance, symmetry, and white space. The fonts were inconsistent, and some were too small.
I liked the graphic designs on the Héloïse Thibodeau Architecte page because it provided a glimpse of what the website offered via a slideshow. I thought it was smart to have the social media buttons fixed on the page because no matter how much scrolling you do, you are reminded to follow and like their page. There was inconsistent use of whitespace and alignment and fonts. Towards the bottom of the page, some graphics were a bit overwhelming.
All three websites were equally visually appealing yet lacked consistency in fonts. They also had links that weren’t functional, probably because they were for portfolio purposes. If I had to choose a design that I liked most of the 3, I would choose the Website for photo & video artists because it is the simplest design, which makes it more user-friendly, in my opinion, and you don’t get overwhelmed by its design.
I could use these websites to help me discover what aspects of the wireframes would work best for my current designs. I realize that I like simplicity; yet, I also like to be drawn into the site, which can be effectively done through a simple graphic video design that gives you an overview of the page without going into too much detail, which will keep my audience engaged.
